The Dutch Ministry of Defence has announced cuts that aims to save 1 billion from the defence budget and will see up to 5000 defence jobs, both military & civil servant, being lost.

The majority of the AS-532 Cougar fleet is to be withdrawn with only 3 out of a fleet of seventeen aircraft being kept for SAR duties, the F-16 fleet is being reduced by 19 aircraft from 87 to 68 while one KDC-10 tanker / transport aircraft is to be disposed of.

The budget for the JSF / F-35 will be reduced by 1.7 billion to 4.5 billion but the second test aircraft will still be purchased.

As well as disposing of ships, tanks, armoured vehicles and artillery, other aviation related cuts include a halving of the Stinger MADPAD systems and one of the four Patriot SAM batteries is to be taken out of service.
