Swedish Air Force participates in Unified Protector

March 3 - The Swedish Air Force (Flygvapnet) has deployed eight JAS39 Gripen fighters to Sigonella air base in Italy to take part in Operation Unified Protector, the NATO codename for operations over Libya, previously known as Operation Odyssey Dawn.

The deployment, consisting of 130 personnel, uses aircraft that were assigned to the Nordic Battle Group, is scheduled to be declared operational by April 6th.

The Swedish Parliament had authorised an initial 3 month deployment.

The deployment also consists of a Tp.84 Hercules for air refueling and a reconnaissance aircraft.
